The most challenging of the trails leading into the Dirty Devil Wilderness, Sam's Mesa Road, is a rugged adventure across a Moab-type landscape. Unlike the other trails in the area, Sam's Mesa drops you down, off of the high plateau, among the sandstone cliffs. The area has a Moab feel, even the obstacles are bigger. There are a couple of rocky hills that require low-range 4x4 and extra ground clearance. Rock steps are 6-8" tall and off-chamber on the hills. This trail is not recommended for large camper top vehicles or trailers. Numerous primitive campsites were available, all with different views and terrain.
