Redbird 3X is an award winner. It was awarded the BF Goodrich Trail of the Year in 2007 and is also a Jeep Badge of Honor Trail. All of the X trails within Redbird State Recreation Area will challenge you, including this one. Chock-full of steep hill climbs and weaving between tight trees while off-camber will indeed challenge even the most experienced driver. It's a must-do if you want to up your challenge from the blue and green trails and add another badge to your BOH collection.
Even when you are having fun, the time comes when everyone is ready for a break to stretch their legs and enjoy the delicious food you brought with you. Green #5 is the chill-out trail in Redbird State Recreation Area. Twisting its short distances through a beautiful forest, you can take a quick break at what is known as "Sherwood Forest," which is complete with picnic tables, benches, and even benches swinging from the trees. While you might not find Robin Hood here, the trail will provide a gentle drive and the perfect lunch spot while wheeling all day.
About an hour and a half from Indianapolis and under 4-hours from this living in Chicago or Saint Louis, Redbird State Recreation area can provide a thrilling weekend for those looking to challenge their offroad and 4x4 skills. Redbird #3 Green is a Jeep Badge of Honor Trail that meanders its way through a beautiful hardwood forest and presents mild to wild driving options for either the new or seasoned driver.
0 Green serves as the primary pathway into the notable trails of Redbird State Park Recreation Area. Some will refer to it as the "powerline trail, " which travels mostly under powerlines. Don't let the "0" or the "green" fool you into thinking this trail is a dud, as you will get to test the flex of your suspension and the traction of your tires as you maneuver through a gauntlet of ruts.
Considered part of the Jeep Badge of Honor Redbird Trail #5, 5 Blue is a ramp-up after driving 5 Green. The action is limited, but the rugged drive through the forest will sure put a smile on your and your passengers' faces as you weave in and out of trees, wrap-around ponds, and look over a ravine with an open forest floor. If you are the only one out there, keep an eye out for deer and other wildlife.
