Clifford (Cliff) Bennett

Mapping Crew - California

A native Californian that has extensively traveled the Pacific Southwest, and now retired from an Engineering career with much time to spend off road. I enjoy off road travel exploring, and camping. Because I have the luxury of spending my days as I want, I am most interested in traveling overland and camping in dispersed sites. One thing I like about TrialsOffroad is the vast information about trails I have not traveled, and, to be able to set up a base camp and visit the nearby published trails. Thanks for the opportunity to be involved; I look forward to meeting many of you on the Trail.

Recent Trip Reports

6S13 - Thomas Mountain 10-21-2017

First time on Thomas Mountain. Great place to go off road and camp. Camped at Tool Box Springs Campground two nights; Saturday and Sunday. Of the 8 sites there, four of them were occupied Saturday. I was the only one there on Sunday. Saturday was busy with quite a few vehicles passing by the campground, and some stopping in to use the restroom. There was a group of boys that belong to a mountain biking club/team, and they rode the trails a lot. I believe the main trail is called Ramona Trail. They, and their dads, were having a great time. No campfires were allowed due to the dry conditions. But it was nice and warm, but not hot; in the 50's overnight.

3N16 - Holcomb Valley 09-15-2017

Drove the entire route, first from 3N14 through Holcomb Valley to Baldwin Lake, and then back to 3N14. then later went down all the way past Green Valley Lake to Highway18. No problems alone the entire route.

3N14 - Coxey Road 09-14-2017

Traveled all the way up from Apple Valley to Fawnskin. No problems. The road was clear all the way. Took my 17' travel trailer up to Big Pines Flat Campground and stayed four nights. Weather was perfect, warm but not hot during the days, and cool at night with temperatures dipping down to the high 30's overnight. Campground will close on October 15, so, if you plan to go, go now.
