Ben is an Engineering PhD and Civil Engineer living in Flagstaff with a family of seven. He grew up car camping in Michigan, and later in Southern Illinois. By way of Utah, Southeast Alaska, Michigan, Illinois, and for eight years in Phoenix, He now lives in Flagstaff, AZ. His favorite weekends are spent exploring a new trail or route, usually with the intent of scoring a nice day hike or short overnight car camp with his kids. He frequently finds that his maps are out of date or that roads are impassable without specialized equipment, and wants to create better information for himself and other enthusiasts in his backyard, the 4 corners region of AZ, CO, NM, an UT.

My Trail Reviews (5)

(within last 6 months)
Cinder Hills OHV (10/28/2022)
Open and in good condition. The fire did little damage.
Fins and Things (09/01/2022)
Nice trail. Ran it in a JT with a 3" lift and 37's. No sweat. Definitely air down for this one. I'm rating it "harder" than a 5, because there are two no-bypass obstacles on the back half that require *very good* approach angles that you won't have unless you're running a jeep or something modified to be similar. Also, note that the "bail route" emergency road halfway through is now moved several hundred yards to the east. The location marked on maps is past the actual intersection now.
Black Bear Pass (08/31/2022)
Open and in good condition. Ran it in a JT. The stairs were easier and the switchbacks harder than in a wrangler.
Hart Prairie (08/19/2022)
Reopened in August. Currently open. In very good condition; unaffected by the recent fires. We ran the loop for mushrooming. The lobsters were already picked over.
FR 301 to Fisher Point Trailhead (07/08/2022)
Open, a bit soggy.
