By way of Utah, Southeast Alaska, Michigan, Illinois, and for eight years in Phoenix, He now lives in Flagstaff, AZ and spends summers in Durango, CO. His favorite weekends are spent exploring a new trail or route, usually with the intent of scoring a nice day hike or short overnight car camp with his kids. (within last 6 months)
Broken Arrow (05/27/2021)
Open and in great shape. Greening up nicely after the rain last week; a surprising number of blossoms are out.
FR 552 Lockett Meadow (05/13/2021)
The snow and mud are gone and the gates open. Normally this will be open after the snow melts, from the start of May on. 2020 was an exception due to COVID. We snagged one of the best spots, and there was only one other group in the meadow, on a Thursday night. Late April (after opening) until Memorial Day (but not including that busy week) is the golden window to camp at Lockett Meadow.
East Pocket Road (04/30/2021)
Late April through Memorial Day are a golden window for camping East Pocket / End of the World. Good weather and no summer crowds. There was ample dispersed rim camping even on a Friday night.
FR 301 to Fisher Point Trailhead (01/30/2021)
Open until the forest service gate, which is CLOSED. Great snowshoeing and cross country skiiing.
Broken Arrow (01/09/2021)
Busy and beautiful as usual
