Crystal City (11/13/2021)
Oh man, what a trail! It was wet, snowy, a bit slippery in some places, but completely spot on enjoyable! Lots of water filled / large potholes. It’s pretty tight in some places so making space for other passerby’s could be tricky. We were the only ones there so didn’t run into any snags. We attempted both Lead King and Schofield and they were impassable.
Devil's Canyon (10/23/2021)
Surprisingly great trail! We had plans to do Red Elephant Hill on Sunday, so wanted some place a little more accessible to get to, camp, and then get out early the next morning. We decided to do the full trail on Saturday and so glad we did. What a fun trail and the views were pretty amazing! We had a very windy night, with zero sleep, and did wake up to a decent snow storm on Sunday morning. Needless to say, the trail conditions were completely dry Saturday and then snow covered and icy Sunday.
Mineral Basin (10/15/2021)
Great trail! It was covered in snow but was able to navigate and make it through safely. Amazing views for sure!
Weston Pass (10/08/2021)
Great trail! We had a good mix of fall and winter conditions all in the same day. So many camping and hiking opportunities along most of the entire trail. Lots of scenic views and places to see the leaves changing colors. Road is in good condition with some pretty decent potholes. water pooled in the large potholes makes them a bit harder to tell how deep they are. We tend to take most trails a bit slower in our Jeeps, and pulled over for several tailgaters that whizzed right by. Overall, pretty easy trail.
Argentine Pass (10/02/2021)
Beautiful trail! We almost missed it from Guanella Pass because so many people were parked to see the leaves. The entire trailhead was full of parked vehicles so we had to wait until we could squeeze through. Unfortunately, we saw some fools riding their four wheelers through the closed areas despite the posted signs. There was a few inches of snow on the trail and had zero issues.
Red Cone (09/25/2021)
We LOVED this trail! This was our first difficult-severe trail and it was so much fun! We watched an FJ get hung up/ wedged on the gate keeper in the beginning, so high clearance is a must! Watch your brakes and keep a very low speed on your decent as locking up can be pretty easy on the lose rock. We are definitely doing the trail again soon!
Breakneck Pass (09/18/2021)
We had this trail to ourselves the entire day and it was so pretty! A few rocky spots but not bad. Lots of great dispersed camping sites were noted along the way. We decided to take Brown’s Pass on the way out, which we felt was a bit more moderately technical with larger rocks compared to Breakneck.
Beaver Creek (09/11/2021)
We picked this trail to see the fall leaves changing and it did not disappoint. Overall the trail was a bit rocky but easy to navigate. The beaver ponds are super cool! We found a great dispersed campsite, however, hunters found it too, and scared the poo out of us before the butt crack of dawn. Always scary to have gunshots wake you up! I would note this as a great fall trail, check into hunting season before you go, and we would not suggest camping or hiking there during this time.
