Wild Horse Road - Green River, Utah
Technical Rating: 3
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 15.7 Miles
Duration: about 2 hours
Status: Open

Wild Horse Road

Green River, Utah

This off-road trail is a visually stimulating treat. Starting just near Goblin Valley State Park and its famous hoodoos, it takes you through three distinct landscapes of the Little Wildhorse Canyon, Little Wild Horse Mesa, the San Rafael Swell, finally dropping you in the middle of the Clay Hills near Factory Butte just west of Capitol Reef National Park. Sandwiched between the more popular San Rafael and Moab off-road areas, this trail is lightly used and feels remote. On top of all the visual scenery, throw in fun washes to drive in and out of and a moderately difficult river crossing - you have yourself a fun day on the trail with this one.

Williams Road - Atkins, Arkansas

Williams Road

Atkins, Arkansas

Williams Road follows the top of a bluff in the headwaters of Bradley Creek in the beautiful Ozark National Forest. During the winter, as well as early spring and late fall, some beautiful views of the valley south of the bluff can be seen from the trail. The trail is narrow in many places, but easily passable. There are many trees downed across the trail, but there are bypasses around them that are tight. I didn't have too much difficulty in my 2 door Wrangler.

There are several small stream crossings along the route, and there will be waterfalls along the streams farther up or down from the trail soon after rainfalls. The largest stream crossing, at Waypoint #6, has a waterfall approximately 30 ft. left of the trail. Stop here and get your feet wet and take a few pictures. The trail ends at an old community that's just about disappeared named Welcome Home. What better way to end a day on the trails than to be welcomed home.

There are several logging roads and USFS roads intersecting Williams Road along its length, so feel free to explore and see what's out there. Remember to obey USFS signs and always tread lightly.
