Overview
If you’re looking for a bad time, then check out Umtanum Ridge Road. Located in the northern area of the Wenas Wildlife area, 10 miles south-west of Ellensburg, Washington, this trail is just not pleasant and is best reserved for if you really hate yourself. Much of the trail is covered in fist-sized rocks, with some exposed roots and off-camber ruts. Though not too much of a challenge for most 4X4 vehicles, it will be harsh on all occupants of the vehicle, making them bounce around on this jarring ride. Getting past the rough ride, the trail offers a nice 360-degree panoramic view, and is also used as a connector between Ridge Road and the historic Durr Road.
This trail is part of the Washington Cascade Overland Route and one of the more challenging trails as well. Visit Overlanding Across Washington for more information, including which trails to take next.
