Trail Information

Highlights

Diablos Tail is a unique feature to Arroyo Seco Del Diablo and Anza Borrego State Park. This short 4x4 / rock crawling trail is in the middle of the overland capital of the world and is a must-stop when in the right vehicle. With the trail only 6-8 feet wide for nearly one half of a mile and sheer cliffs of over 70 feet in spots, it is no wonder why the unique features seem to interest so many people when passing through the area.

Appears to have a land slide at waypoint 3. The next rain should clear out the area.

The trail is blocked off my a collapse at around waypoint 3. I only saw footsteps past the blockage so I just turned around. Will have to try again some other time

Wow it is narrow. I got around the big boulder by driving on the side and slid to within an inch of hitting it. I was in a first gen Xterra , a very narrow vehicle and I don't think anything wider could make it right now. There is a lot of bowling ball size rocks on the trail and not a lot of signs of many vehicles making it to the turn around point, A samurai could do it but wider and longer trucks may need to do a lot of backing to get out of there. Really fun short trail. There was no sign marking the turnoff for it so be sure to have the location in your gps.

That lovely sandstone boulder and a steep sheer on the passenger side make this nearly impassable for almost all vehicles with 4 tires. This obstacle occurs less than 0.5 mile from the main trail, well before the previously documented boulder. The photo doesn't do it justice, but you are looking at a 45 degree roll-over angle. We had to reverse out as I was unsuccessful at moving the sandstone boulder manually.

I ran into the bolder the previous reviewer highlighted. Its located at black arrow that I drew into my map pic. I didnt realize that you could get around it. I was in my 4runner so I wasnt motivated to try. I had to back up part way to find a turn around point wide enough to make a 5bpt turn
