Highlight: Potts Mountain Road
Potts Mountain Road is only one of the many places to escape pavement in beautiful Craig County, Virginia. With over 50% of the county lying within the borders of the National Forest, there are countless dirt roads waiting to be explored. With incredible views, mountain streams, hiking trails, and large tracts of public land, the surrounding area is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts of all types. Lying along the ridge of Potts Mountain between Route 311 and Sweet Springs Turnpike (FS 176), this trail is easy and passable with most vehicles. The major highlights of this trail are its access to The Hanging Rock Trail and Shawvers Run Wilderness Area. Most of Potts Mountain Road is surrounded by National Forest with the exception of a small portion bordering private property.

Directions to Trailhead

Starting Point: New Castle

From Newcastle take Route 311 north for 15 miles until you get to the top of Potts Mountain. At the very top of the mountain Potts Mountain Road veers off to the right.
