Definitely a worthwhile spur off of Barlow Canyon this road leads to one of the best mines in the area. The road up is really nice, although only half a mile long. Once you are at the top of the trail, there is a mine back and to the left in the rock hill. You can see where the old entrance used to be, an open gated entrance, and a grate over another shaft. If you venture the other direction from the road, you will see some tailings from that mine.

Head south on Highway 6 out of town for about three miles until you can turn right/west on 36. Follow 36 8.8 miles until the trailhead for East Tintic Mountain Exploratory Canyon Route. Take this trail 5.5 miles to the trailhead.

You must then complete the first 1.4 miles of Barlow Canyon. The trailhead for Barlow Canyon Mines will be on the right.
Barlow Canyon
I like this trail. Cool snow trail, currently the trail is 75 percent snow and prob get 7-8 inch depth. Due to snow I didn't venture out to see the mines , but beautiful area. Fullsize tundra made it. Video here , Barlow canyon is about the 1:09 mark to the 9:40 mark
This is a neat little spur to take. Too bad everything is closed off! Exploring these mines would be quite incredible.

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, he's only been off-roading since he was 16 but fell in love immediately. He attended college in Denver for Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management and wheeled in Colorado for 4 years, but ended up moving back home to Salt Lake City. He currently works in an off-road shop and spends his free time doing anything he can to stay busy, which is usually working on his jeep or playing music. Outside of off-roading, he is an avid whitewater rafter and outdoor cook. Camping at least every other weekend in any season is a normal year. The further from civilization, the better. Bring on the memories!
