This trail ends at a series of campsites that overlooks the area that gave the name to the Maze District of the Canyonlands National Park. Over millennia, the area's limited rainfall eroded a spiderweb network of canyons into the many layers of colorful sandstone. A few of the canyons are broad. Many are slot canyons a few feet wide and 300 feet high. While it is easy for modern adventures to get lost in the maze of canyons, prehistoric petroglyphs and granaries found attest to the allure this area has always held for humans. The road offers a few rock bench obstacles and a lot of scenery. Venturing on foot into the maze of canyons is best done by experienced hikers with at least basic climbing skills.
