Panorama Point leads to one of the most epic views in the Maze District of the Canyonlands National Park. It also spurs off to Cleopatra's Chair, a massive sandstone formation and one of the other few campsites in the central part of the Maze District. The Panorama Point campsites are perched on the edge of a near-vertical cliff 1300 feet above the desert floor below. Spread out at your feet is the entire southern half of the Maze District with its multi-hued sandstone formations. The jagged horizon is dotted with various mountain ranges. You'll immediately know why this is called Panorama Point. The drive to Panorama Point crosses a few sandstone ledge obstacles and fairly deep sand in one valley. The trail winds through a pinion and juniper forest. Take care when hiking, and don't step on the cryptobiotic soil.
