Hayden Peak departs Silver City winding up through the mountains to a historic ghost town. A quick creek crossing through some willows starts the trip, which gains 2600 feet to end at Hayden Peak at 8300 feet elevation.
There are several steep switchbacks that require longer rigs to perform three-point turns. In addition, there are several sections of bowling-ball-sized rocks to be navigated. Be aware of the deep ruts caused by seasonal rainfall and low-hanging trees and branches.
This trail has amazing sightseeing and history. From the scenic, tree-lined views to the mine shafts along the side of the road, the driver won't want to hurry as they make their way to Hayden Peak. The peak offers amazing views of the entire Snake River Valley. On clear days, they can see all the way to the Boise Front mountain range.
